RULES FOR
CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR
BE PROMPT - Be on time for class
( Tardy = not in your assigned seat when the bell rings- a 3rd
unexcused tardy in 1 term will result in detention)
BE PREPARED - Bring needed materials every day (notebook,
paper, pencils, pens, homework).
BE POSITIVE – Give encouragement to others. Have a good
attitude.
BE POLITE – Be sensitive to the feelings of others.
BE PRODUCTIVE – Use the entire class time for work or
study. Complete assignments on time.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Class activities are written on my chalkboard. Read it each day
for
instructions or due dates for projects/ homework. Required work
must be written in your planner’s
calendar with the assignment name and its due date. Many assignments,
and all projects, will have an instruction handout which you can take
home. However, some handouts CANNOT go home without the
teacher’s approval( textbook worksheets for example).
Absent students must make up work - contact the teacher or a “study
buddy”. If the teacher is not in the
classroom before class starts, please wait calmly outside as a class
until the teacher enters the room. Enter the classroom calmly and
quietly and take out the materials you will need. Check the chalkboard
immediately for information or instructions. Your class seat is
assigned to you and recorded on a seating chart. Occasionally I make
changes, please cooperate with those changes. Class is dismissed
when the teacher releases
you.
Bathroom Pass – Depending on class activity, I may limit when
or how often a student leaves class to go to the bathroom or get
water. Emergencies are treated as they occur. Permission must be
given, then sign out on the yellow form and use the wooden hall pass.
The following
activities I DO NOT allow in my
class:
1.Excessive talking / socializing instead of being on task
working /
talking out of turn – blurting out opinions or being rowdy
2. Teasing
students physically or verbally
3. “playing" and distracting noises (slamming/dropping items,
carelessness with class materials)
4. Eating /drinking in class (water is ok, chewing gum is ok as long as
I don’t see or hear it, no blow pops )
5. Playing with toys /reading magazines/working on class work for
other subjects during class without permission
6. Not responding to immediate instructions
7. Disrespectful attitude
8. Swearing is not allowed at school . Other words I consider offensive
or excessively negative are:
“shut up”, “sucks”, “jerk”, “idiot”, “stupid”, “nerd”,
God’s or Jesus Christ’s name used disrespectfully
9. CHEATING =copying
ANY work
from another student’s textbook
questions,quiz/test,worksheet,or essay
10. It is against school rules to mark on a desk or chair.
CONSEQUENCES: depending on the
seriousness or timing of the problem :
1. I may give a verbal warning or partially filled out detention meant
to stop the problem,
2. I may deduct class points, or send the student outside class.
3. I may give the student detention or referral to the office
When a detention is assigned I will fill out a
detention form and hand it to the student. The student must show it to
their parent/guardian. I will phone parents about the detention.
4. For Cheating I may destroy all the papers of those involved and
allow students to complete the work again at lunch under my supervision
for reduced credit. or I will give a
ZERO.
GRADES
A lot of extra credit is available for extra written
work,
appropriate oral class participation, and even extra projects !
Each unit usually has some extra credit mentioned on my website, or
students can watch appropriate Historical TV programs and write a
written summary or notes taken in pen. Also, some videos we watch in
class may be available for extra credit notetaking.
****** Assignments turned in on the date due will receive maximum
credit for the correct work. Assignments
turned
in late can receive no higher than a C minus or lower depending on the
quality or the lateness of the work.
A “VMS” heading is required on all assignments – the correct
form
can be found in the student planner
There are a few projects which will begin in class and may need
to be continued or finished at home. They usually have large point
values.
**Textbook worksheets are very important to your grade. They
usually begin in class but are often finished at home for homework. You may not copy answers – the
papers will
be trashed and both will receive Zeros or have to begin again.
Essays/ Letters/ Project written work must be done in PEN with BLUE or
BLACK ink , or typed using 14 point font,1 ½ spacing, and 1”
margins.
*** POINTS- All assignments are recorded in my computer
as
points. Students should keep all
graded work
until after the term grades are posted and accurate.
I
try to print out student grades every 2-3 weeks and post them on the
back bulletin board using student ID’s. Grades are also available on
Zangle for parents to view.
My grading scale is : 90-100%=A
80-89%=B
70-79%=C 60-69%=D 0-59%=Fail
Each 6 week term's grade is considered a Progress Report toward
the Semester grade. Parents are encouraged to monitor the
student’s
progress in class. Progress reports can be made through the office or
directly
to me.
